SUVA - The Fiji police has expressed its keenness to learn from Hong Kong expertise, local website Fijivillage reported on Monday.

"Hong Kong is one of the largest city police forces in the world, and with its emphasis on purpose-built community police stations, modern communications, computerized criminal records and other hi-tech aids to fight crime, can greatly assist Fiji,"Fiji Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Iowane Naivalurua was quoted as saying.

According to Naivalurua, during his recent visit to Hong Kong, he met with HK Commissioner of Police Tsang Wai-hung and held talks about ways of developing future working partnership between the two sides.

Fiji may soon be strengthening bilateral relations with Hong Kong in areas of training, Naivalurua said, adding the HK side has showed interest in assisting Fiji to learn from other jurisdictions.

The HK police force is dubbed the best trained one in the world, Naivalurua said.

Meanwhile, the Fiji police commissioner will lead a 7-member delegation for a similar comparative tour to Singapore next week.
