BEIJING - A middle school teacher in Northeast China's Heilongjiang province who was injured while saving two students from an oncoming bus has succesfully undergone surgical debridement but is not out of danger, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said Tuesday.

The operation was conducted on Monday under the guidance of a group of experts dispatched by the MOH, the MOH said, adding that the teacher will undergo one or two more debridement operations.

Zhang Lili, whose legs had to be amputated after she was hit by the bus, is now in the intensive care unit of the First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University, the MOH said.

Zhang, a 29-year-old teacher at the No 19 Middle School in the city of Jiamusi, was crossing the road just outside the school's main gate on May 8 when she saw two students standing in the way of an oncoming bus. Zhang successfully pushed the students out of the way, but did not have time to avoid the bus herself.
