Silk Road is star of film show

A week-long international film show about folk and custom along the ancient Silk Road will be held from May 24 to 30 in Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi province and the starting point of the ancient Silk Road.

Organized by the National Tourism Administration, the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Shaanxi provincial government and sponsored by Xi'an municipal government and Xi'an Qujiang Film and TV (Investment) Group Co Ltd, some 20 films made by Italy, Russia and India will be shown to reflect the full charm of the ancient Silk Road with a variety of subjects, perspectives and cultures.

As part of the Mayor Meeting of the Cities along the Silk Road which will be held on May 28 to 30 in Xi'an, the film show also has a number of activities on film and TV exchanges including screenplay trading and an introduction to overseas film rights in order to promote international exchange, speed up friendly inter-city development and enrich people's cultural life.

The ancient Silk Road, which started at Chang'an (now Xi'an), capital of the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC–24 AD), was a cultural exchange and trading road from ancient China to the ancient Roman Empire with a total length of more than 7,000 miles.
