NANNING - About 30 tourists were trapped Saturday afternoon in cable cars suspended mid air at a mountain scenic resort in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

Around 11 a.m. Saturday, the local fire brigade received a report that about 60 tourists, including some foreigners, were trapped in the Yaoshan mountain scenic spot in the city of Guilin, said local rescuers.

Rescuers had rescued 30 of the trapped as of 2 p.m. Rescue work is still under way but is hampered by the steep mountainous terrain.

The accident was probably caused by power failure, said rescuers.
