JINAN - A broken pipeline in Shandong province has been repaired after diesel leaked from it, local authorities said Saturday.
As of 11:30 am Saturday, the broken section of the oil pipeline in the city of Zibo had been fixed after construction workers damaged it, according to a statement released by the Zibo municipal government.
Local authorities have arranged professionals to collect and transport the diesel-contaminated water to a sewage treatment plant.
At about 7 am on Friday, a construction team from the city's water company damaged a section of the oil pipeline near the Jinan-Qingdao Expressway when working on an adjacent water supply pipe.
A 7-meter-deep hole has been dug at the site to collect the leaked diesel and avoid further pollution.
The exact amount of leaked diesel and losses are still under investigation.
The pipeline belongs to China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec Corp).
