Ni Junxiong, former deputy director of the Guangdong social order comprehensive management office, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for taking bribes at Dongguan Intermediate People's Court on Wednesday.
Ni, who also used to be the police chief of Maoming, Guangdong province, took 2.78 million yuan ($43,700), HK$2.11 million ($272,000) and $30,000 in bribes, in 41 cases, mainly for promoting officials, reported Guangzhou Daily on Thursday.
The posts in the city's police system were priced at 20,000 yuan to 300,000 yuan each by him.
On the same day, Huang Hong, former police chief of Huazhou, Maoming, received 13 years in jail for taking and offering bribes, including those given to Ni.
