The Shekou division of the Shenzhen customs department seized a batch of counterfeit Nike shoes worth more than 5 million yuan ($786,538).
On June 27, 18,416 pairs of shoes packed in Nike boxes caught the attention of customs officers.
The labels on the boxes said "made in Vietnam", but the export destination was also a country in Southeast Asia, which aroused suspicion because usually the goods wouldn't go through a Shenzhen port.
The case is still under investigation by the division's anti-smuggling department.
The Shekou division seized about 30 batches of counterfeit goods this year, which were worth more than 10 million yuan.
