13 injured in SW China coal mine blast

GUIYANG - Thirteen miners were injured, including eight who sustained serious injuries, in an outburst in a coal mine Sunday night in Southwest China's Guizhou province, local government sources said Monday.

The accident occurred in Hongfa Coal Mine in Caiguan township of Anshun city's Xixiu district at 10:55 pm, when 40 miners were working underground, according to sources with the Xixiu District government.

The miners rushed out of the mine shaft after the violent ejection of coal and gas in the shaft seriously injured eight miners and left another five with minor injuries.

Sources said all of the injured have been hospitalized and their injuries are not life-threatening.

Investigations into the cause of the accident are underway.
