A new university graduate in Zhejiang province recently made headlines by becoming a dormitory keeper, local media reported.
Wang Xue, 22, who received a bachelor's degree from Zhejiang University of Media and Communications in June, gave up a job offer from a government department in Guanghzhou, Guangdong province, and chose to become a keeper for a male dormitory in the Zhejiang Agricultural and Forestry University in Hangzhou, according to zjol.com.cn, a major news portal in Zhejiang.
In Chinese universities, dormitory keepers are usually middle-aged people who rarely have a higher education background.
On her micro blog, Wang often calls on "her boys" to regularly clean up their rooms and obey university rules. Her witty words and familiarity with the students have made her a popular figure in the university and on Sina Weibo, China's version of Twitter, where she has nearly 17,000 fans.
Since Wang became the keeper, the sanitary and safety conditions of dormitories under her management have substantially improved, according to the report.
