Workshop aims to boost marine development

A workshop aiming to deepen cross-border cooperation on marine sustainable development among developing countries opened in Beijing on Monday, organized by the State Oceanic Administration and Ministry of Commerce.

Officials from eight developing countries, including Tanzania and Cambodia, attended the workshop which will last seven days and include visits to Tianjin and Xiamen in Fujian province.

Chen Lianzeng, deputy director of the oceanic administration, said on Monday China has always participated in international marine cooperation and will provide financial support to developing countries to educate experts in the marine industry.

The workshop, first held in 2011, is an annual conference organized by China to discuss maritime affairs with developing countries.
