Tianshui city in Northwest China’s Gansu province is offering a prize of 1 million yuan ($160,000) to whoever submits the winning design for a 99-meter-tall statue of Fu Xi , Xinhua News Agency reported on Nov 4.

Fu Xi, who was believed to be born in the city about 8,000 years ago, was the first of the three primogenitors of Huaxia civilization in Chinese mythology. The locals have held related memorial ceremonies for about 2,000 years.

The statue will be built at the center of the Memorial Square for the Ancestor Fu Xi.

According to the bureau of housing and urban-rural development of Qinzhou district, design submission for the 99-meter-tall statue should reflect the dignity of the legend and also be consistent with traditional Chinese aesthetic standards.

Renowned experts from the country will be invited to be judges.

According to the bureau, the design plan should be submitted by Nov 30.
