Japanese student in coma after fall in Shanghai

A Japanese female student is in a coma after falling from a building in Shanghai on Monday morning, local police said.

The cause of the fall is not known, and police are investigating the accident.

The woman, 28, studies at the Shanghai-based Fudan University. She fell from the eighth-floor of a 23-storey student residential building on Handan Road, Yangpu district, at around 9 am on Monday.

She was rushed to Changhai Hospital for emergency treatment, police said.

Doctors said that the woman was not conscious last night.

The university confirmed the accident on Monday, but didn't disclose any further information.
