Faced with a rapidly aging population, Guizhou province said it plans to open 2,400 centers in three years to provide services to the elderly who do not want to live in nursing homes, Xinhua News Agency reported on Thursday.

The centers will include 900 community-based elderly service centers in cities, each with the capacity to take care of 2,000 aged people who need assistance with their daily needs, such as grocery shopping and healthcare services.

They also include 500 daytime care centers in cities to provide space for the elderly who have no company in the daytime.

In rural areas, the province plans to build 1,000 service centers to take care of aged rural people who live alone after their offspring moved to cities to work.

The province said that it will develop various kinds of services for the aged population to meet their different needs.
