BEIJING - Chinese Vice-Premier Wang Qishan on Friday called for more efforts to continuously fight copyright infringement and counterfeit products.

Wang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, stressed that the crackdown on intellectual copyright infringement and counterfeit products is an important task that concerns the people's immediate interests, and it should be intensified for the long term.

Wang recognized the achievements made by law enforcement departments across the country in the crackdown in the past two years, saying such illegal activities have been effectively curbed.

The manufacture and sale of counterfeit products involving agricultural materials, food and drugs and auto parts should be harshly fought, Wang said.

Wang also urged more efforts to better protect intellectual copyright in terms of trademarks, patents and commercial secrets.

Despite the achievements, we should be aware of the complicated and stern reality we are facing in fighting copyright infringement and counterfeit products, Wang said, adding that a high-handed policy will be continuously in place to curb such illegal activities.
