One official in Huangshi, Hubei province, was sacked and 49 others were punished for inappropriate behavior during working hours, according to the official website of the city government.

The Party disciplinary authorities in Huangshi inspected 116 government administrative offices from Jan 2 to 17, in an effort to improve the environment for social economic development.

They found that dozens of people at 56 offices were checking entertainment and shopping websites during working hours.

Zhang Songhai, deputy director of a district-level judicial bureau, was removed from office because he was found sleeping in his office after drinking alcohol during lunch. Another official was suspended from work pending further investigation.

Twelve other officials received less-serious disciplinary action. Another 32 people were criticized in a notice released by the inspectors. Four other workers received verbal warnings.

The inspectors also visited more than 30 major companies and telephoned 160 small businesses to get feedback from the corporate sector.

They disciplined urban planning officials who deliberately delayed the schedule and harassed companies, as well as industrial and commercial administrators who fined companies without reason and due process.
