4.2-magnitude earthquake hits Yunnan province

BEIJING - A 4.2-magnitude quake jolted Ning'er Hani and Yi autonomous county, Southwest China's Yunnan province, at 9:47 am Tuesday (Beijing Time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The epicenter, with a depth of 5 km, was monitored at 23.1 degrees north latitude and 101.0 degrees east longitude, the center said.

At 11:47 am, a 3.8-magnitude tremor jolted the place again with a depth of 5 km, according to the CENC.

Cao Wenrong, Party chief of Ning'er county, said he felt his office building shaking badly during the quakes.

Cao said the epicenter was in the outskirt of Ning'er county, and relevant authorities are calculating the damages.
