Confucius worship ceremony held in Qufu
The 2013 Spring Confucius Worship Ceremony is being held in Qufu, Shandong province, on April 1 and 2.
Qufu, Confucius' birthplace, sees the event as an opportunity to gather major Chinese travel agencies to talk about future cooperation opportunities.
The event has five main parts — an exhibition of new travel products; promotion of spring travel activities in Qufu; Confucius worship in Nishan Hill; a lecture themed "Cultural China & Literary Nishan Hill"; and a semester-opening ceremony for students.
Qufu used to be famous for its grand Confucius worship ceremony held in the autumn. In 2008, the spring session was resumed after a half-century pause. Since then, the two events, both aimed at teaching Confucianism, have been held.
The traditional ritual in spring was recovered, as a way to promote traditional culture, and also to improve the visitors' experience of Confucius worship as a cultural heritage activity.
