Shanghai has more migrant workers born after 1980 than locals of the same age, according to a report released by the Institution of Population and Development under the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences.

Zhou Haiwang, vice-director of the institute, told Xinhua that about 41 percent of these migrant workers graduated from junior high school and 31 percent of them graduated from senior high school.

The report also said that many young migrant workers in the city are single. About 56 percent remain single, a complete reverse from migrant workers born earlier.
