Police name man in fatal Beijing knife attacks
Police have named a knife-wielding man they say fatally stabbed two people and injured another in downtown Beijing on Saturday.
Li Jinghui, 36, a native of Bayan county in Heilongjiang province, attacked vehicle drivers and passengers with a knife on a road near Guangqumen Bridge at about 2 pm on Saturday, according to a statement from the municipal Public Security Bureau on Monday.
Li died from injuries as he resisted arrest, the statement said.
He lived temporarily in Dongying city, Shandong province, and arrived in Beijing on Friday, the statement said, attributing the attack to his personal problems.
In the statement, police thanked residents who helped them seize Li.
Wang Qian, who was driving a car at the time of the attacks, told China Daily the two victims who died were a woman and a taxi passenger. Another man's arm was seriously injured.
