Police in central and east China have busted several fake condom factories, seizing more than 4.65 million faux condoms worth 47.7 million yuan ($7.76 million).

A total of 37 suspects were arrested in the raid for producing and selling unsterilized brand-name condoms including Durex, Contex and Jissbon, according to the Ministry of Public Security on Monday, Xinhua reported.

The police raid also seized four production lines, 11 packing machines, 470,000 paper boxes, 150,000 instruction books, and 500 kilograms of condoms in bulk from six workshops scattered in the central Henan province and eastern Fujian and Zhejiang.

During the police raid in Jinjiang of Fujian, a dozen of employees were found lubricating the rubbers and packing them into bags with a production line in a 50-square-meter workshop where fake condoms were piled up surrounded by oil, local police said.

A fake condom only costs 0.17 yuan ($0.03) in production while sold at 1 yuan ($0.16) in an online shop affiliated to the workshop.

The case is still under investigation.
