Official sacked over daughter's luxury wedding
SHIJIAZHUANG - A Communist Party of China (CPC) head of a poverty-sticken township in North China's Hebei province was fired on Thursday over his daughter's extravagant wedding, local authorities said.
Yue Shuwang, CPC secretary of Pingdingbao township, the seat of impoverished Guyuan county, was sacked after an investigation showed he spent 200,000 yuan (about $32,400) on a wedding banquet for his daughter, as well as received 1 million yuan in gifts from others, according to the county's CPC committee.
Yue was also ordered to return the money he had accepted.
The county's discipline inspection commission has created a team to investigate the case further.
The government has called for greater efforts to eliminate extravagance and corruption in recent months.
