10 arrested for kidney harvesting
Police in Wuhan, Hubei province, have arrested 10 people suspected of trafficking human organs, according to xinhuanet.com.
Earlier this month, a whistleblower reported to police that kidney harvesting and transplants were taking place illegally in a suburban villa near Wuhan.
Police raided the villa in the city's Jiangxia district on Saturday morning, arresting 10 people, including doctors and nurses.
Harvesting the kidney cost about 400,000 yuan ($65,570), in which the provider of the kidney received 30,000 yuan, the surgeon 130,000 yuan, the anesthetist 30,000 yuan, while two nurses received 10,000 yuan each. The remainder was pocketed by an agent who connected the provider with the recipient.
