Typhoon Trami makes landfall in East China
FUZHOU - Trami, the 12th typhoon to hit China this year, landed in East China's Fujian province at 2:40 am on Thursday, local meteorological authorities said.
Trami made landfall in the coastal areas of Fuqing city, packing winds of up to 126 km per hour at its center.
The storm has brought strong winds to Fujian's coast, with maximum winds of 163.4 km per hour at Niushan Island in Pingtan County.
Heavy rains hit Ningde and Fuzhou cities from 8 am Wednesday to 2 am Thursday, with precipitation of more than 50 mm. Eleven counties have reported precipitation of more than 100 mm, with 338.2 mm reported in Pingtan.
The Fujian provincial meteorological observatory predicted Trami would move westward and bring rainstorms to central and northern coastal areas of the province.
Zhejiang and Fujian flood control authorities initiated a Grade II emergency response to Trami. Some high-speed train services were halted on Thursday.
