Project launched to care for health of teachers
A fund to care for the health of teachers was set up by the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation on Wednesday.
The Yong Caring Teachers Health Fund aims to improve the quality of life of teachers in schools for migrant children and in poor rural areas across the country, said Chen Hongtao, deputy secretary-general of the CFPA.
Former China Central Television host Li Yong, who is now a lecturer at the Communication University of China, donated 1 million yuan ($163,400) to the foundation to launch the fund.
The new fund has two programs. One will provide health packages to 10,000 such teachers this year. Each package will include a thermos cup, medication to protect the throat, a neck pillow, cushion, kneecaps and health handbooks, valued at 200 yuan ($30) each.
The other program, named "A Glass of Water in Class", asks students to offer a glass of water to their teachers before or after class to show their respect and gratitude to teachers.
