A fuel spill forced the closure of the north and south service areas of Qingyin Highway in Weifang, Shandong province, on Sunday morning, Qilu Evening News reported.

The spill happened on Saturday after a tanker deposited about 10 metric tons of fuel into a Sinopec gas station.

Some hours later a fuel line from the tank storing the fuel ruptured and members of staff immediately contacted the emergency services.

The gas station was closed and road barriers were set up at the entrance of the service areas. The area has been evacuated.

The incident is being investigated and no date has been set for the station to reopen.
