Chengdu released information referring to economic development of the city earlier this month.

Chen Fu, vice director of Chengdu Municipal Board of Investment, gave a briefing on the city's major achievements to open-up to the outside world and improve its investment climate. Compared with its counterparts, Chengdu enjoys six comparative advantages, namely, livable environment, broad economic hinterland, abundant talent resources, sound industrial infrastructure, superior business investment conditions and standardized government services, Chen said.

According to Chen, 252 Fortune 500 companies had set up branches in Chengdu by the end of December 2013. Among them are 188 foreign enterprises and 64 domestic enterprises, a record high. An additional 22 overseas Fortune 500 companies have settled in the city, including GDF Suez, SMFG and Hyundai Motor.

Meanwhile, Chen outlined the city's plan in opening wider to the outside world and attracting more investment in 2014. The year 2014 will witness Chengdu's hard work in investment promotion and construction of international industrial structures. The city also will strive to build a broader, multi-level industrial opening-up structure in all respects. Also, the Chengdu government's goals for 2014 include optimizing the development environment in an all-round way and building an open, cooperative environment with comparative advantages.
