Twenty Shanghai citizens and police officers were named "Guardians of Safety" by the municipal publicity department and Shanghai Public Security Bureau on Jan 14 for their special contributions in safeguarding the municipality in 2013.

The award recipients included 10 citizens, including taxi drivers and volunteers, who assisted police and maintained order in communities.

Jiang Jun was one of 10 police officers to be recognized. The 38-year-old policewoman in Minhang district caught more than 150 suspects in theft cases last year.

The award-winning police officers will visit communities, schools and factories to pass on their philosophies of safety and tips on how to avoid criminals.
