The education department of Liaoning province banned primary and middle school teachers from holding cram study sessions or giving extra classes off campus in a notice released on Monday, Shenyang Evening News reported on Tuesday.

Any primary or middle school teacher who did not finish a lesson in class and deliberately held an off- campus session to finish the lesson or host a cram study session will be punished or dismissed, the notice said.

The notice was released after a letter of a student in Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang province, attracted national attention. In the letter, the student, whose family is poor, said one of his teachers was not effective in his daily lessons during class and also held extra classes after school in exchange for large fees.
