Beijing tightened its anti-corruption efforts in 2013 and punished more officials for violating disciplinary regulations, Beijing Times reported on Monday.

According to the Beijing authority, the city investigated 547 cases of violating the "eight-point" rules during the year, of which 323 officials were punished, an increase of 51 percent from 2012.

As the capital strengthened its supervision of officials, 119 people were ordered to take administrative responsibility for the violations.

Under the eight-point rules issued by the CPC Central Committee in December 2012, government officials must clean up undesirable work practices such as formalism, bureaucracy, hedonism and extravagance.
