A man convicted of killing one doctor and injuring another two in an attack caused by a medical dispute in Wenling, Zhejiang province, was sentenced to death for intentional homicide on Monday.
The Intermediate People's Court of Taizhou said in its verdict that Lian Enqing, 33, stabbed to death Wang Yunjie, 46, and wounded two other physicians at the First People's Hospital of Wenling with a hammer and knife on Oct 25, because he was dissatisfied with surgery done on his nose at the hospital.
During the hearing on Wednesday, prosecutors said Lian was not suffering from any mental disorder at the time of the crime according to a third-party judicial appraisal, as the incident happened shortly after he was released from a rehab center where he was being treated for paranoia.
Lian's lawyer Zhu Shengyong said he will apply for a reappraisal of Lian's mental state and appeal to a higher court.
