A single woman in Hubei province asked to be hospitalized for psychiatric treatment during the Spring Festival holiday, to escape blind dates set up by her parents and relatives, Wuhan Evening News reported on Wednesday.
Wang Yan, an alias, 29, an accounting staff member at a private enterprise, told the paper she is afraid to celebrate the holiday, because more than 10 of her relatives always ask her to go on blind dates.
Wang went to Hankou Hospital on Tuesday, feeling great pressure from her family, and asked a doctor in the psychiatric rehabilitation department to check her in, the report said.
Wang’s family members often arranged blind dates for her during holidays, according to the report, adding that Wang even had dates with three different men on one day.
Hu Hongtao, the doctor, told the paper Wang had a panic attack, but he suggested she not try to escape reality but instead communicate better with her family.
