A young man who was too ashamed to face his parents because he had no money sought police help to stay at a rescue center in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, after the Lunar New Year holiday, New Express Daily reported.

The 27-year-old man, surnamed Chen, from Jiangxi province dialed a local police hotline for help on Monday after he had spent all his money.

Chen told police he wanted to stay at the city's rescue center because he was cold and hungry.

Chen came to Guangdong for work after he graduated from junior high school more than a decade ago.

He dated four girlfriends in that time and used to spend his small salary every month on them.

Chen said that fortunately he has now been employed by a restaurant and will start his new job on Wednesday.
