Alcohol fumes make cleaners sleep for hours

A truck carrying 2,700 boxes of Moutai white spirits, turned over on a highway and the strong alcohol fumes made some cleanup workers sleep for as long as 20 hours afterward, Chongqing Evening News reported on Friday.

The accident occurred at about 2:40 am on Feb 12 on a highway in Chongqing municipality and the highway police who received the report organized porters to clear the broken goods after they sent the injured driver to hospital.

The alcohol fumes were so strong that the porters had to stop several times during the cleanup and some slept for 20 hours after as they were affected by inhaling the strong alcohol fumes.

The truck carrying alcohol valued at about 20 million yuan ($3.3 million) was traveling from Guizhou province to Henan province. All those injured in the accident are in stable condition.
