Twenty-seven people were put under administrative detention and 28 more received administrative penalties in Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang province, during a campaign to crack down on the sex trade and gambling on Wednesday night, the local police authority said.

Police raided more than 2,700 entertainment venues including hotels and bath houses in Harbin. The crackdown came three days after police in Guangdong province announced a similar province-wide campaign to fight the illegal sex trade.

As of Wednesday, 920 suspects had been apprehended and police had raided more than 18,000 entertainment venues in Guangdong, including karaoke bars, saunas and massage parlors.
