To restrain the trend of collecting gift money at weddings or funerals, the Guiyang discipline inspection commission issued new rules on Sunday to restrict the scale of banquets for city officials holding weddings and funerals.
Wedding banquets held by one family of a couple should be limited to 15 tables (150 guests) and to no more than 30 tables (300 guests) if jointly held by both families, according to the rules.
Meanwhile, public funds, properties and government cars should not be used for weddings and funerals, and accepting money or gifts from related interest parties will be regarded as a disciplinary offence.
Banquets for reasons other than weddings and funerals are also forbidden. For example, banquets for birthdays, promotions or housewarmings are not allowed.
Small gatherings of family members and friends for the above purposes are acceptable.
The public, acting as supervisors, can report irregularities via the official website or hot lines set up by the disciplinary authority.
