Thief takes money for wedding gift

A thief climbed from one apartment to another on the sixth floor of a residential building in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, but was eventually caught.

The owner of an apartment on the sixth floor, the building's highest, discovered the thief inside his apartment at around 10 pm on Saturday searching for valuables, Modern Express reported on Monday.

The owner locked the thief inside and called for help, and was answered by a nearby police patrol.

The thief escaped to a neighboring apartment by climbing out of a window, working his way across to another apartment and entering it through another window. He then left the second apartment and climbed to the rooftop, from where he jumped to a neighboring building, where the following police caught him.

The thief said he had no money for a wedding he had been invited to so had broken into two apartments that night to steal money to use as a wedding gift.
