A list of marriage costs posted online indicates that Shenzhen, Guangdong province, is the most expensive city in China in which to wed, scol.com reported on Wednesday.
The list collected from information posted by netizens throughout the country showed that couples in Shenzhen spend an average of 2.08 million yuan ($339,000) to get married, compared to 2.02 million yuan in Beijing and 2 million yuan in Shanghai.
Marriage costs in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, ranked 9th at 554,000 yuan, but local people said that figure is not high enough. A resident in Chengdu surnamed Zhang, who is preparing to get married, said he plans to spend some 800,000 yuan on his marriage and that may not be enough as he needs at least 600,000 yuan to buy a house in the city for his new family.
Marriage costs include a house, interior decorations, appliances, furniture, a car, a wedding ceremony and a honeymoon.
