A boy from Haixing county, Hebei province, was sent home by two kidnappers after they failed to sell him, Yanzhao Metro Daily reported on Monday.

The boy, 6, went missing near his grandmother's home on March 9. In the early morning of March 12, he was found on a road in the area and taken home by a bus driver.

After scrutinizing surveillance of thousands of cars, police identified the car used to abduct the boy and located the suspects at a hotel in Shandong province on Thursday, where the pair confessed they had attempted to sell the boy for 40,000 yuan ($6,500).

The suspects said they sent the boy home as the prospective buyer refused to pay due to the boy's age. They abducted another boy before the police located them.

The police are still investigating the case.
