School revokes maternity leave rule

A regulation barring female teachers from maternity leave in their first three years of service at a high school in Shizuishan, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, was revoked after it was disclosed in the media, xinhuanet.com reported on Wednesday.

Shizuishan Experimental High School imposed the regulation on Monday, saying the rule applied to female teachers younger than age 27.

The city's education bureau responded after media disclosure on Tuesday, saying that the regulation violated laws and policies. It asked the school to rescind the regulation immediately.
