KUNMING - Two out of five children left on the verge of death by a suspected food poisoning in a kindergarten in southwest China's Yunnan Province this week are now out of danger, a local official said on Thursday.
The two pupils of Jiajia Kindergarten in Pinglong Village of Qiubei County have been transferred to the general wards in the Qiubei County People's Hospital, said Ma Yue, deputy director of the county education bureau.
The remaining three critically-ill children are still under emergency treatment, Ma said.
Thirty-two children showed symptoms of food poisoning on Wednesday afternoon. Of the seven in critical conditions, two girls, aged four and five, died after medical treatment failed.
Many parents have waited anxiously outside the emergency department. One said he had waited there for nearly a day and still had no idea what caused the suspected poisoning.
Ma said further investigation is under way.
The other 44 pupils at the kindergarten have also been sent to the local hospital for medical observation.
