Many people in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, have rushed to buy toys from an old man and his paralyzed wife, Yangtze Evening News reported.
The 82-year-old man, Shao Fuzhou, sells toys outside the Xuanwumen subway station to earn a living after his wife, 84-year-old Liu Yongzhen, became paralyzed five years ago.
Although the couple's five children want to look after them, Shao and Liu insist they do not want to become a burden and can take care of themselves.
After learning the couple's story from local media, many people went to buy their toys and told Shao to keep the change, while others brought him food and beverages and offered donations.
Shao refused to take any donations, however, saying his wife likes to go out and enjoys the time spent with him selling the toys.
