A father in Beijing stabbed and killed his daughter, who was infatuated with popular stars, during an argument, Beijing Times reported on Thursday.
Prosecutors have charged the father, surnamed Li, with intentional homicide on Wednesday, and Beijing No 2 Intermediate People's Court has filed the case, the paper said.
On Nov 8, the 41-year-old Li had a serious quarrel with his 13-year-old daughter. Li was angry that the girl surfed the Internet every day and spent a lot of money following popular stars, the report said.
Li told the girl her passion for the celebrities was affecting her study and they would not treat her well like parents, and the daughter responded that she loved the stars more than her parents, according to the report.
The girl's reply enraged Li and he rushed to the kitchen and grabbed a knife, the report said, adding that his daughter was also angry and hit her father with her fist.
Li then stabbed the girl with the knife, the paper said, adding the man later called the police and tried to kill himself.
The two were taken to hospital, where the girl was pronounced dead, the report said.
Li, from a village in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, came to Beijing for work in 1998 and married the girl's mother, who was identified as having mental health problems later, according to the report.
Li often quarreled with his daughter about her preoccupation with popular stars, the report added.
