Police officer divorces wife who misrepresented age

A police officer in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, has divorced his wife of 10 years after finding she lied about her age, New Express Daily reported.

Ah Kang and Ah Jing, both Guangzhou natives, began to date after they met on a train in May 2002, and wed two years later.

Ah Kang became angry and sued for divorce late last year after he found Ah Jing had used a fake identity card to register for their marriage certificate. The fake identity card indicated Ah Jing is 12 years younger than she is.

After mediation from Huangpu district court, the divorce was finalized on Tuesday, the report said.

Ah Jing's fake identity card showed she was born in 1975, and thus four years younger than Ah Kang, when they registered for their marriage certificate in the Guangzhou Tianhe district bureau of civil affairs in December 2004.

Although Ah Jing miscarried several times and failed to give birth to a child, the pair were a devoted and harmonious couple for the past decade until the husband found his wife's real identity card late last year. That showed Ah Jing was born in 1967 and was 37 years old when they married.

Ah Jing admitted to having used a fake identity card to register for marriage as she worried Ah Kang would leave her if he knew her real age.
