QUJING - A body was retrieved on Wednesday, after 22 miners were trapped in a flooded coal mine 10 days ago in southwest China's Yunnan Province, rescuers said.
Rescuers found the body at the underground shaft around 4 p.m. after they had been pumping water out of the pit of Xiahaizi colliery in Qilin District, Qujing City, said a spokesman with the emergency response and rescue headquarters.
The accident happened at 4:50 a.m. on April 7, when 26 miners were underground. Four were rescued. Investigators believe the flooding was caused by an explosion.
Rescuers are continuing to search for the other 21 miners.
