BEIJING - A symposium was held in Beijing Saturday to commemorate the 110th birth anniversary of Ren Bishi, one of the founders of the People's Republic of China.

Liu Yunshan, a member of Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, addressed the symposium held at the Great Hall of People.

Ren, one of the first-generation leaders of the CPC, began to work for the revolutionary undertaking when he was 16 years old and died of illness at the age of 46 in 1950.

Liu praised Ren for his contribution to the country's independence and liberation, and urged people to carry on the spirit of the revolutionary.

Ren, who was born in the county of Xiangyin of Hunan Province in 1904, was head of the Political Department of the Eighth Route Army after the outbreak of Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945).
