Dalian Sino-German Cancer Center unveiled its curtain at the Second Hospital of Dalian Medical University on Thursday, providing a platform for the treatment of complicated cases of cancers through regular visits and remote consultation by German experts.

"It will benefit the patients in Dalian and greatly promote the research level of our hospital," said Zhao Zuowei, head of the Dalian hospital.

Gerd Schwandner, mayor of Oldenburg; Tenzer Drik, head of Klinikum Oldenburg; and four experts from the German hospital attended the opening ceremony. They were attending the third session of academic cooperation and exchanges between the Dalian hospital and Klinikum Oldenburg of Germany from April 21 to 29.

The cooperation of the two hospitals started from last summer, when Schwandner and Drik visited the Dalian hospital and signed a series of agreements to promote the cooperation on cancer treatment. The second session was held in Oldenburg last winter.

In his speech at the opening ceremony, Schwandner said cancer has become a biggest threat of human health and life, but separate studies of different countries would be inefficient. The establishment of the Sino-German Cancer Center would accelerate the progress of cancer treatment between the two countries and more patients would benefit from it, he said.
