The public security department of Shanxi province directed local police units to check within their own ranks to see if anyone has a fake household registration, Xinhua News Agency reported on Monday.
The provincial authorities announced the measure on Sunday, after a Changzhi police official, Fan Hongwei, was found with six false identities. Fan was removed from his position of deputy director of the Changzhi police bureau for further investigation.
All police stations in the province were asked to check up on police officers and their relatives, as well as other residents, to determine whether anyone has multiple IDs. Anyone found with false household registration and ID cards who refuses to correct the problem, is subject to punishment, the provincial authorities said.
