BEIJING - China's meteorological authority on Tuesday issued a blue alert, the lowest level in its four-tier warning system, for heavy rain in some southern regions.
In the 24 hours starting from 2 pm Tuesday, heavy rain or storms will hit some parts in the provinces of Guizhou, Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Anhui and Zhejiang, as well as Tibet autonomous region and Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said in a statement.
Torrential rain of 100 to 130 millimeters will be seen in some northeastern parts of Jiangxi, among other areas, the statement said.
The NMC said that local governments should take emergency measures against coming storms, cut off outdoor power supply in dangerous regions and prevent potential disasters from heavy rain, including mountain floods and landslides.
China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
