Chengdu will offer a reward of up to 500,000 yuan ($80,000) to people who report and provide clues on terrorist activities and violent crimes, according to a notice issued on Monday by Chengdu Public Security Bureau.

The city put forward the policy after Beijing, the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, Liaoning province, and Nanning, capital of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, adopted similar policies, as part an effort to combat violence and terrorism.

According to the notice, the size of the reward will depend on the practical effect of the clue.

Citizens may report clues to police by calling the 110 hotline, going to public security offices or sending e-mails and letters.

The Liaoning provincial public security department offers three levels of rewards: the first level ranges from 50,000 yuan to 500,000 yuan, the second from 20,000 yuan to 40,000 yuan, and the third from 1,000 yuan to 10,000 yuan.

Xinjiang gives rewards ranging from 5,000 to 30,000 yuan to people who offer clues on major explosives, violent crimes and terrorist activities.

Nanning gives rewards ranging from 1,000 to 100,000 yuan.

The public security departments have also strengthened checks on ammunition and explosives and supervision of knife and firecracker producers.

Xinjiang gives rewards ranging from 500 yuan to 2,000 yuan for tips on illegal transportation, storage and selling of explosives.

Kunming, capital of Yunnan province, also strictly forbids illegal production, purchases, sales and use of explosives and highly toxic chemicals.

A terrorist attack at the Kunming Railway Station on March 1 killed 29 people and injured more than 130 others.
