A woman who held hostage for two months by Filipino kidnappers is back at her home in Shanghai, News Morning Daily reported on Wednesday.
Gao Huayun, 29, a resident of Shanghai, was snatched by seven Filipino kidnappers on the night of April 2 from a hotel in Semporna, Malaysia, and then taken to the Philippines. It was reported that the kidnappers asked for 500 million pesos ($11.39 million) as a ransom.
The Filipino police confirmed that they negotiated with the kidnappers for Gao’s safe release and did not pay any ransom.
Gao arrived back in Shanghai on June 2 to reunite with her family, members of who have said they want a peaceful life and not to be disturbed by media enquiries.
